My weekend results

I had so much fun sewing this weekend. I still have loads more to knock off my list, but I’ve made a good bit of progress on some of the things that were piling up over the last couple months. I’ve cut out pieces for a few bags (pics will have to come later), and I got four large quilt blocks done and two of my granny square blocks done and the rest laid out so I can piece them together quickly this evening when I get home.

First up is the first four months of the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer Mystery Quilt. I get these as a block a month thing, but I’d only attempted the first one before this weekend. My first attempt didn’t turn out so well, so I made it again and made the remaining three as well.

Next up, two of the Granny Squares quilt blocks. I can probably finish up the blocks for the top tonight if I get around to sewing later this evening.

Finally, a wrist pincushion because I’m sick to death of poking my fingers every time I need to line up a seam on these darn blocks. Plus, it’s just cute and I like cute.

Now I’m off to Joann’s to pick up some covered button kits, some purse hardware, and some seat cushion foam because my butt is killing me after sitting on my hard, wooden sewing chair all weekend.

All told, not a bad FNSI result. :)

P.S. Sorry about the crap lighting in the pics, but I don’t have time to screw around with getting decent shots today. Too busy having fun! ;)

19 notes about this post

  1. You are using the most darling fabrics for your granny squares. And Congrats on your win. Good job making the wrist pincushion. My dog jumped on the couch and spilled my pin box – they were al over the place & slipping between the cushions and I was trying to get the dog down before she got stuck. Oh and don’t even ask, why the pin box was sitting on the couch without the lid on. :-( LOL!

  2. The Mystery Quilt blocks are amazing…just gorgeous!!! And the Granny Square blocks look like lots of tedious work…you did a great job! And good on ya for making the wrist cushion…it IS cute!
I’m also a homeschool mom, (cradle to grad.) but those school days are gone, as our sons are now in their late 20′s. I hope you find the experience as fulfilling as we did.

    • I hadn’t had a chance to check back in on the FNSI results, so I hadn’t even known I’d won. Thanks for the heads-up! :) I saw the signup for this quilt and HAD to do it. I don’t really love BOM things because I’m a cheapskate and think they’re seriously pricey compared to buying the patterns and fabric and doing it yourself, but this one was a must do. I wish you could have signed up for it. I don’t know how they usually work, but maybe the will sell the patterns after it’s all done?? If not, I could send my pattern leaflets your way because I doubt I’ll use them again.

  3. You had a terrific FNSI! Your mystery blocks are adorable, as well as the pincushion :)
I like the fabrics you’re using on the granny squares. They’ll make a very lovely quilt.
Thanks for stopping by to see my FNSI, too!

    • Oh, don’t get me started on how much I love that fabric. I would just toss it on the bed and roll in it, but that’s weird (so I’ve been told at least), so I’m having to settle for making a quilt out of it and containing my drool every time I look at it. ;) Thanks for the reciprocal visit. :D

      • My favorite oramennts are the last two oramennts left that were brought with part of my family heritage on my Mother’s side. They came from Germany. One of them was made in 1787, the other in 1798. They have been passed down from generation to generation, always to the youngest child ( for a change YaY!) So I have them now. I don’t have children, so my niece will get them from me when she has children. I can’t even count how many great greats that is, but I am proud to have them. They are glass.

    • Thank you. The wrist pincushion was born of frustration after spending all evening jabbing my fingertips every time I reached into my pin container for yet another pin to help line up my wonky seams. Yeah, I’m a crap quilter and I have to use a jillion pins per block. ;)

Stopping by to visit everyone is my favorite part of FNSI. Usually takes me a couple days to hit all the links, but it’s so much fun to see what everyone else worked on.
